A number of years ago the guys at men’s breakfast were giving me a hard time. They looked at me like I was crazy when I asked the waitress for a bowl of oatmeal with some brown sugar and peanut butter on the side. Lets face it. Oatmeal doesn’t look all that appealing to begin with. Stir in some peanut butter and it looks downright nasty.
“Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it,” I told them.
After several weeks of watching me gleefully swallow it down, one of them decided to give it a go. To his and the rest of the table’s surprise, he loved it! It wasn’t long until I was surrounded by men eating oatmeal with brown sugar and peanut butter every Saturday morning.
Most of the world looks at the Christian life and isn’t really interested. We don’t drink, we don’t party, we don’t gossip or tell dirty jokes, we don’t look at pornography or live in sexual sin, we don’t this and we don’t that. From the world’s perspective, Christianity looks rather dull, restrictive, and unappealing.
We can explain the gospel to them, describing the love of God, the forgiveness of God, the peace of God, and the life He gives, but they won’t really KNOW any of those things until they experience them for themselves. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34 to “Oh, taste and see that The Lord is good.” Once you have tasted and seen for yourself, you move out of the realm of skepticism or personal belief, and into the realm of personal experience.
1Corinthians 1:18 “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Have you tasted and seen that the Lord is good? God promises to manifest himself to you if you will obey His commandment and believe on the One He has sent. Take a step of faith and open your heart to Jesus Christ. Considering what He went through at the cross, there’s no doubt that He wants you to.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13, Acts 2:21
